Happy 2nd Birthday Miles!!!!

Today is actually Miles' birthday but his Elmo's World Party was yesterday. We had lots of fun and excitement. Two very important people were missing due to illnesses. Mike's dad with the shingles and my mom who had an emergency appendectomy earlier in the week. We had a fun time but it was bittersweet because we wished they could have been here for our first birthday together.

We had elmo cupcakes and a large walking Elmo balloon bouquet along with party hats and horns. We chose Elmo because Miles LOVES him and loves all things Sesame Street. He is always humming the elmo song. We also had pizza and pop along with Elmo juice boxes for all the kids. The cousins were here and also close family friends. It was warm and muggy so we went back and forth between the deck and inside the house. Miles got a bubble mower,a camping chair and Curious George ball and bat from us. He got lots of other awesome stuff also. It was a special day.

I have had his birth-mother on my mind today as well as his foster mother. He has no idea just how much he is loved by so many people. He is such a special little boy and is full of life. He is hilarious and cracks us up with the things he says. He always says "OH!!" after we tell him something like it was the greatest story ever. He is saying lots of words and gives many unsolicited kisses. When he knows he has done something that will probably get him in trouble, he will grab my hand and pat and kiss it. Little manipulator huh??? HAHA!! Happy Birthday Miles. You are so precious to us and we can't wait to experience all the adventures life holds for us!! Love you always!!

A Mother's Love

This weekend is a first for me. I will be celebrating Mother's Day as a mother. I already had pictures and videos of my sweet guy last year and knew I was his mama but to actually be able to hold him is priceless.

Before I knew him his birth-mother made the unselfish choice to place him for adoption. We will always honor her and I will be forever grateful for the extremely hard decision she made.

The other VERY IMPORTANT woman in his life was his Omma. This is our Korean Angel who so graciously cared for Miles HaeWon and showered him with love for his first 15 months. We are so thankful for her and the wonderful home he had. They have become our "Korean Family" and hopefully we can travel back someday to see them. He was their first foster baby so I am sure they will always have a special bond.

Being Miles' mother is an honor and I cannot wait to share all those special milestones with him. My own mother is one of the kindest, most giving people I know so beleive me I have had a wonderful teacher.

Bustin A Move For Children's Day

Children's Day is a national holiday celebrated May 5th in Korea. Most businesses and government offices are closed and the day is spent enjoying time with children. Most people go on an outing such as a parade, zoo or park and gifts are given to children. The belief, from what I understand, is if parents and adults treat children with respect then in turn children will grown up and treat others with honor and respect. I am enjoying Miles so much and am amazed how much is growing and becoming so independent. He is such a joy and makes me laugh hysterically. I came downstairs the other day and when I called his name he did not answer. I looked at the curtain and their was a big lump moving behind it. I pulled it back and said "What are you doing?" and he had the deer in the headlight look. He had taken a whole jar of my lip gloss and was "cleaning" the window with it. It was smeared so badly I couldn't see out of it and he had used the ENTIRE jar. It was also all over his face and clothes. I just about busted a gut because he was just helping me clean. He had seen me cleaning the glass on the door to the deck the day before and just thought he would assist. Fun memories!!! He also says DIE instead of BYE so when we go on walks with the stroller he waves at people and says DIE!!! We are working hard on the "B" sound as a result HA!! Happy Children's Day!!!
